Organic Is Here to Stay

A lot of things are trendy, come and go but organic is here to stay.  We are learning more about the effects of chemicals every day, especially their effects on the growing brains of children.

Organic foods are foods that are produced using methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic Foods also do not contain genetically modified organisms, and are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.

There is a protective mechanism , called the blood brain barrier, that keeps substances out of our brain and spinal column. When our baby is born, like most of his systems, this  mechanism does function as a mature adult’s does.   Substances can pass through the blood brain barrier in infants that wouldn’t affect adults.

It is the unknown that leads me to conservative thinking on this subject and wants to protect our babies from the chemicals we have control over. I feel it is important to expose our little ones to as few chemicals as possible until their blood brain barrier matures.  The best way to do that is to make organically sound choices and stay informed on the things you introduce into your child’s environment and into their system.
